Hello all! A short message for you today.
I know Peace of the Whole is super new so as it is but there are some newer new things coming next week. I started this newsletter about two weeks ago on the January new moon after months of dreaming about it. I just sort of dove in because I couldn’t stand to not be writing it any more. The first several essays were longer format, introducing some of the big ideas that guide my work here and my cyclical living practice. If you haven’t read them yet, there’s one about fertility awareness and one about the inner seasons of the cycles.1
Coming next Wednesday I’ll be introducing a new format for bi-weekly missives, with several sections and more resources for cyclical living/life with a menstrual cycle. I’m really quite excited about it; I feel like a kid on the first day of summer vacation.
With paid content coming soon, here’s how I plan for things to go:
Bi-weekly on Wednesdays I’ll send out a free email including a short essay, cycle check in, and a round up of resources for living cyclically. I want this to be accessible for all people, so it will not be behind a paywall.
Paid content will include one to two longer, in depth essays each month. Subjects may include: my personal menstruality practice, explorations into what cyclical living can look like, the terrain of the inner seasons, the fertility awareness life, inquiries into why culture hates menstruation so darn much, as well as the deep dives into hormones and anatomy we deserve(d) as young people.2 Paid subscribers will also have access to chats I will be opening up soon.3
If you’re considering a paid subscription, it may come as no surprise that I would really appreciate it. I’m hoping to create the resource I haven’t found but deeply needed: a landing place of sorts for people who want to live more in line with their cyclical nature and for the people that love people with cyclical bodies. Paid subscriptions are crucial for helping me sustain this work.
You can also support me by sharing Peace of the Whole with folks you think will appreciate it. For better or worse, I don’t promote my work on any social media platforms. I left social media in late 2021 and have no intention of returning.4 It does feel risky putting writing of all things out onto the internet and not joining in the social media song-and-dance to spur engagement. But…that is what I’m doing. So if my work got you thinking or made you feel less alone or you just think it’s kinda weird, please share it!
Also the February full moon is coming this Sunday. I don’t have any clear practice surrounding moons yet, but I try to observe them. The cyclicalness of them of course intrigues me but it also reassures. If you have a good lunar cycle practice or a way you relate to the moon I would love to hear about it.
See you around,
Ema
There will be at least one essay all about cervical mucus. At least. Probably more. Seriously, it’s really cool stuff.
I am considering a podcast too, maybe. This would also be for paid subscribers only because it’s going to take a lot of work. But I want to do interviews and that is the best format for it.
My squiggly brain cannot handle the algorithm, endless scrolling, breakneck pace, and ceaseless noise, though I miss seeing what other creatives and my friends are up to.
Yes! I spend time observing the moon every single day. I first read about doing so in Katie Singer’s book on fertility awareness. Picking up the practice brought my cycle down from 32+ days to 28. And that change happened with no other lifestyle interventions!
